Without constructive criticism the world would not be as wonderful! I actually enjoy placing myself around people that give lots of it. On the same note I tend to stay away from the people that are heavy on the criticism and lacking on the constructive part.

Thanks for your comments Patrenia! Self-reflection seems to be rare in this politically correct world, but certainly someone should be appropriate in giving criticism. Sometimes people are just trying to be mean or in some cases just having a bad day. When it is all said and done though, we can learn from just about any criticism. Sometimes someone who steps over the line teaches us how not to be when giving criticism to others. :D

Yes, you can limit your own personal growth by getting offended at someone else's opinion. When we are offended by someone, our defense mechanism goes into effect. It's hard, but you are right. It's best to just let it go and realize that what was said was "that person's" opinion. Not necessarily fact. If it was criticism given with love, then it may be time for self-reflection.

Jen - The retaliation thing is something we all experience I think---I know I do. It's a natural reaction when we ourselves are hurt. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the comments. :D

Dustin - Suck it up, get over your ego and excel. I like that. And yes, the ego can cause prideful responses.

Sometimes my feelings get hurt, but I always get over it and grow in some capacity from the experience---even if only a little.

Amen! It can be tough not to be defensive when you get criticized. However, I'm a firm believer that constructive criticism is the best way to improve and grow in life.

Great post.
Criticism can be hard to hear, and I sometimes feel like I want to retaliate and let the other person know their flaws too! Ultimately though, when done in a constructive way, it is a real gift and can help us see our blindspots and grow in ways we might not, left to our own devices.
Thanks
