If you are a subscriber to Enemy of Debt then you are either working really hard to become debt free, or you simply enjoy my passion-filled rants on why debt freedom rules. If you are one of the few in this country that actually acknowledge debt to be a problem, and you are trying to get rid of it yourself, chances are you are making some less than favorable sacrifices along the way. All I can say to you is keep up the excellent work and before long you will reach your goal.

I learned a bunch of things from taking the debt free journey, but one of the most critical was the term sacrifice. We sacrificed and sacrificed, sometimes wondering if we were sacrificing too much, or indeed heading towards the pasture where the grass was greener. It turns out our journey was worth every sacrifice, but if I said we never experienced the down-side to that degree of sacrifice I would be lying. There were definitely times when we thought we were over doing it…ummm…okay, to be honest it was my wife mostly, but to her credit it was for good reason—I was extreme!

The word obsessed came to mind many times along the way, and there was one time where we had to take a step back, slow down, and regroup. During that time we took a break from our debt snowball so we could enjoy life again. One of the most dangerous side effects of being gazelle intense while paying off your debt is risking burn-out syndrome. People who get burnt out usually stay off the wagon, possibly to return at a later time, or much worse, not at all.

I am a firm believer in gazelle intensity, and do not regret how our journey played out at all. After all, we are debt free and have $7,000 in our Emergency Fund. I did learn however, that finding some balance is key. Lucky for you, there are many frugal and cheap ways to entertain your family during the sacrificial part of your journey. Intensity and sacrifice go hand and hand, but what if you could spend less than $30 and were able to entertain your family, AND learn about the debt free process?

That’s what this post is all about. I have recently teamed up with the makers of the I’m Debt Free Game to give you a less expensive way to have some fun. I am so very happy to announce that your purchase will also be benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization. From every single game you buy, I will be giving 100% of it to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Here’s the 3-Month Gameplan!

If you buy an “I’m Debt Free” game, according to the time line below, you will be in fact donating to Big Brothers Big Sisters!

1st month – May 7th — June 7th 100% Buy one now and I’ll give 100% of my earnings to Big Brothers Big Sisters
2nd month – June 7th — July 7th 75% 100%
3rd month – July 7th — August 7th 50% 100%
Thereafter – August 7th — Indefinitely 25%

Now some of you may think I am completely crazy, but I happen to feel very blessed. I have more than some people do, and profit is not the most important issue to me.ย  My motivation is to help out those less fortunate, to give them a better opportunity to reach for the stars. I cannot think of a better way, than to give a little girl or boy who needs mentoring, a chance to experience something they may not currently have. Having someone in your life to encourage you, inspire you, and to help you believe in yourself is priceless. The role models I have had in my life have been extremely valuable, and Big Brothers Big Sisters “have been the leader in one-to-one youth service for more than a century, developing positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people.”

I hope that you will help me reach my goal of raising $300 for the 3 month period. If you help me reach my goal, I will throw in an additional $100 out of my own pocket!!

Not Familiar With Big Brothers Big Sisters?

Simply AWESOME! To be honest, I have been watching this organization and have often considered volunteering as a Big Brother. Unfortunately, my time is limited at the moment, so I thought I could at least contribute in some small way to such a wonderful and much needed organization. The organization received an A+ from Charity Watch in the Top Rated Youth Development category.

From the website:

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors that have a measurable impact on youth.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Vision is successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities for all.

Our Mentoring Programs Work

National research has shown that positive relationships between youth and their Big Brothers and Big Sisters mentors have a direct and measurable impact on children’s lives. By participating in our youth mentoring programs, Little Brothers and Sisters are:

  • More confident in their schoolwork performance
  • Able to get along better with their families
  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
  • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
  • 52% less likely to skip school

Very cool game! We played tonight, my husband, 11 year old son and I. I lost big time. My husband won because he hoarded all his cash. The game is fast and a bit furious and definitely mimics real life. Just when you think you’re out — debt happens. Too bad you can start with a larger emergency fund.

    • Brad Chaffee says:

Definitely a cool game Jan! Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the game. I was wondering the other day if the winners of this game had a chance to play yet! Glad you like it! ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Brad Chaffee says:

That’s great to hear Mikki! I know you have done a great job of inspiring your class and I hope you enjoy playing that game. Do you guys have a potluck on the last class? I am trying to unite all three classes that I have done on the last day and we are going to carry out our FPU tradition. LOL

I would love to hear how your FPU classes went. Email me sometime to let me know how things went. ๐Ÿ™‚
