pay off debt

It seems that most people consider the word freedom to only pertain to physical slavery. I’ve had many conversations on the subject and have been surprised to find that some do not see having debt as a form of slavery.

In my mind, I find that laughable, but it is far from funny. Personally, I feel it is nothing more than denial and denial solves nothing. As they say, the truth shall set you free.

I think that most people know the generic definition of freedom, but let’s assume for a second that they don’t.

The Definition of Freedom

Actually there are MANY definitions found for the word freedom, but I will list just a few.

  1. the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint.
  2. the power to determine action without restraint.
  3. the power to exercise choice and make decisions without constraint from within or without; autonomy; self-determination.

They are all pretty much the same right? There’s physical freedom, political freedom, debt freedom, religious freedom, and the list could go on. ANYTHING that is keeping you from doing something you want to do, is limiting your freedom—plain and simple.

The easy answer to gaining your freedom back, is to remove the obstacle to your freedom. Become the master of your freedom in every way you can. Remove the master/servant relationship from your finances by becoming debt free. The truth is that whether or not you admit you are a slave, if you have debt, you are a slave. If you have payments, those payments are keeping you from enjoying freedom on multiple levels.

By accepting debt as your master you are saying that your freedom to be and do, what you want to be and do, is not important. I find it hard to believe that anyone would take that stance knowingly. I credit it to blindly following the grain of society, as well as not mastering your ability to delay pleasure. You may have already mastered financial slavery, but I recommend that you master your freedom instead.

Life is so much better than working a job you hate simply because you cannot afford to follow your dream. Allowing your paychecks to be vehicles of debt repayment, instead of vehicles of security and wealth for you and your family, is rather unfortunate.

You deserve so much better, and the good news is that you are truly in control. You just have to grab the wheel and start driving! Take your life and your finances off of autopilot and be proactive. (Autopilot – functioning in an unthinking or reflexive manner.)

Master your freedom!

chewing gumYou can smell the flavor before you even get it unwrapped. Mmmm! It’s going to be so refreshing. You start vigorously chewing with focused attention as you excrete the juicy taste from the once dry, powdery stick of gum. It’s so good and you hope it never ends, but as much as you enjoy it, you start to realize that the love affair is over. That taste that was promised to last forever now tastes like wet cardboard. What do you do?

You grab two pieces. Maybe, just maybe, it will last for ten minutes instead of just five.  Something tells you that you’re probably wrong but what else are you going to do? You’ve got to have fresh breath.

Has this ever happened to you?

I know it has. It looks so delicious as you watch the commercial lying to you about how long the flavor lasts, so you fall for it. After all, they lure you in by convincing you—the flavor that lasts all day—will cause your one true love to instantly appear, or the one you already have to have sparkles in their eyes because your breath smells so fantastic.

It would seem to me that someone is great at marketing. Nobody wants to have stinking breath, so before long you are up to a pack a day. They sold you on something that does not live up to the hype, but you still buy it. That’s GREAT marketing!

Guess who  else is great at marketing?

You’re waiting in line at the bank. Your palms are sweaty and you are nervous, with butterflies in your gut and a bloated misconception of how beneficial getting approved would be—you are confident. Debt is a tool, and you owe it to yourself to be able to enjoy life right? It’s a relationship that you practically beg for, and you aren’t really sure what you just signed up for but you do know you have a few purchases to make to break in your new plastic friend.

What could be better than being able to borrow someone else’s money to buy something you yourself do not have the money to buy? It’s perfect, why stop with plastic? So you go out and buy that new “reliable” car you have always “needed”.

Life is GREAT!

Then one day you wake up and realize you are up to your eyeballs in debt. Debt—the tool—has suddenly become a monthly burden that has grown out of control. It is like a fiery beast and it has control over your emotions. You believed that it was going to make everything all right, but the romance is over. Or is it?

Now it’s more like an abusive relationship. You are in a viscous cycle that forces more bad financial decisions because you have no other choice. You believed that that credit card was going to be for emergencies right after you charged a little to “build your credit”. You just knew that new car was going to be reliable. Now it’s at the shop.

What are you to do now?

You go get more credit because you are maxed out, and after all, you need something to use for emergencies. What about your credit score? You can’t go through life without a credit score, just like you can’t get a good date without that long-lasting piece of chewing gum.

You never stop believing the lies. You just know that one day, using debt as a tool will put you right where you want to be. Reality is that you were lied to. Debt is not a tool, and how many dates have you ever been on that lasted only 5 minutes? They want you to keep paying them interest, and they want you to keep investing in their gum.

Have you been fooled by society?

By the banks? By marketers? What about broke family members?

You are not alone. Many of us have bought it, hook, line, and sinker too. The question is do you want to continue down the path of living paycheck to paycheck, or do you want to learn how to be DEBT FREE? Free from stress? Free from bondage?

Wouldn’t you like to remove the one thing that is keeping you from building wealth? How has it worked for you so far? Debt is nothing but a roadblock! It is not helping you.

The great thing is.

You can get rid of your debt, and I believe in you. Not because I know you, but because I did it. I’m not that special! Anyone of you have the same ability, but you have to stop believing the lies.

Get rid of your debt, and find out for yourself why debt freedom is so entirely AWESOME!!

debtpayoffAre you ready to pay off debt in 2010? If it is not one of your New Years resolutions, then you should take this opportunity to make it one now. Debt is not your friend, and if you are one of the many people out there that carry a balance from month to month, then you know what I am talking about.

Get rid of it! Get rid of the financial roadblock that is keeping you from experiencing financial peace. Being broke is no fun. Living paycheck to paycheck is stressful, so now it is time to make the changes necessary. You cannot just sit back and watch from a distance, it requires immediate and purposeful action. You have to want better for yourself and your family.

I have helped many people set up a budget, in most cases, the first budget ever. One of the things I ALWAYS hear is “I don’t have any extra money at the end of the month.” In some cases this is true but most of them learn that they really did all along, which is why doing a budget is just like getting a raise.

The other thing people often do is limit themselves by not realizing that there is more out there than just there day job. There are other ways to make additional money to save, pay off debt, and improve your financial situation. You just have to keep an open mind and be willing to think outside of the box. Your comfort zone is not doing you any favors.

Before you start paying your debt off there are some things you need to do first.

You are ready to pay off debt! Now what?

Now you are ready to start using the Debt Snowball method. Basically, you take ALL of your disposable income and use it to pay off your lowest debt first. (Rinse and repeat)

Now for those of you who are looking for ways to increase your debt snowball above what your current income can accomplish, I have some possible solutions. These are ways that I AM experienced in using, so I know they work.

Pizza Delivery -My buddy Jeff,  over at Deliver Away Debt, can vouch for this being an excellent source of additional income—as can I. He makes approximately an extra $1,500 a month, give or take. He works an extra 22 hours a week aside from his first job to do this. Kudos to Jeff for being so committed to delivering away his debt!

For those of you who like math that is potentially $18,000 of debt that will be paid off in one year—NOT including extra money from Jeff’s day job.

Ebay sales decemberEbay -There is LOTS and LOTS of money to be made on Ebay! My wife is really great at doing it too. She is the real mastermind behind this not me. As I have stated before, she buys things at yard sales, thrift stores, and auctions, and sells them on craigslist and Ebay. This takes some work, but if you are willing to do a little research before purchasing goods, you can do it too.

In the last 31 days my wife made an EXTRA $717.41! Minus the cost of these items and you have some real potential at making some good money.

Do It Yourself Side Jobs – No one is stopping you from providing a service to someone who needs it. Well OK, maybe you are stopping you, but I am here to tell you to GET OUT OF THE WAY! You don’t have to go out and apply for a job to provide someone something of value.

Are you good at something? Do you knit, crochet, paint, draw, design websites, teach music, make crafts, or provide services such as day care, pet sitting, leaf removal, lawn care, house sitting, maid services etc.?

Want to know what I do? I design graphics and logos for websites. My new blog is Logos4You.Net and it shows some real potential for making lots of extra money. I just started this so I do not have any numbers to crunch for you just yet but I assure you, I am already making money. You can too!

Now go increase your debt snowball and pay off the debt in your life once and for all! It’s something you will be so glad that you did.

Good Luck!
