Last night Vonnie got her hair colored, and since it was all styled we felt like checking out a new restaurant that recently opened in the area. As you well know, I’m not a huge fan of restaurants, but they did have chimichurri beef skewers on their appetizer menu. Since this was something I hadn’t ever had, it fit the bill (no pun intended) of a justified meal out. That and my wife looked smokin’ HOT. Even more than usual.
On the way home, she asked me how we could possibly be OK with our entertainment spending. She had just had her hair done, bought some hair product, and we just went out to eat. Tonight we’re going to a concert at a local club. She thought it had all the makings of an over budget weekend of spending as we hadn’t even talked about Saturday yet.
I recounted the points of our spending:
- The cost of her salon visit (including a $20 discount for seeing an online ad – SCORE!) was actually less than expected
- The cost of our meal was relatively low since I ordered an appetizer and no alcoholic drinks (hey, I was driving…safety first!)
- We would withdraw the remaining entertainment budget in cash the next morning. That would be our spending limit for the concert.
- Saturday would be a “sleep in, go to the gym, snuggle on the couch with a movie” night.
BAM, right on budget.
She nodded her head and gave me the thumbs up. It wasn’t the traditional Thursday evening budget meeting where we discuss our weekend spending, but it worked. That folks, is how it’s done.
Fist pump for being on the same page with your spouse about weekend spending! Then raise it a little higher for my favorite posts of the week……

I think the nights of splurging are made so much sweeter because they’re not every night. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
thanks for love!
It’s appreciated much more when it’s not an everyday event, it was a great time! Thanks for stopping by, Stefanie!
Yay for staying on target and having a fun splurge day too! Hubby surprised me with a massage night complete with candles, music, massage oil, and he read a few massage books for ideas. It was amazing! Totally worth the $35 spent on candles and a fancy massage oil!
I agree, that’s a very creative use of $35……AND he learned some skills that he can surprise you with over and over again! Kudos to hubby!
My fave part of this post was hearing that you made the time to tell your wife how hot she is. Great job, my friend. 🙂
LOL, I’m a lucky man, and I take every opportunity to tell my wife how I feel. She deserves every bit of the pedestal I put her on. 🙂
I’m glad you had fun and stayed on budget! I probably need to learn more about budgeting.
Keep on reading, Charlie, we can help you out in that department. 🙂
