I Love You Like a Blogger Roundup – 05/31

Our spending the last two weekends have been all about celebrations.  Two weekends ago our son got confirmed, so we hosted a celebration with family and friends at our home.  Last weekend we hosted our 17th annual Memorial Weekend party.   In June the focus will shift towards purchasing some things for the family.  Vonnie and I made a list of things that we need and/or want.

  • First up, this weekend both Vonnie and Tristan will be getting some much needed new tennis shoes.
  • The entire family is due for eye exams.  Vonnie will get new glasses and Tristan a fresh supply of contacts.  Most of this will be covered by insurance, thankfully.
  • New bikes for both the kids as they’ve outgrown the ones they have.

The best part is that we can fit these things within our discretionary spending during the month of June as long as we pay attention to our spending and remember that May’s spending was largely on “fun” so June’s spending is concentrated on these needed items.

Check out my favorite links of the week, then leave a comment telling everyone what YOUR spending goals are for June.  Have a great weekend!

Thanks for sharing one of this week’s posts, Travis! My goal for June is to sit down and really plan out what my summer is going to look like financially. I have a lot of travelling to do, weddings to attend, etc. and I’m feeling stressed… I know I will have the money to make it work but I still need to budget for everything else too!

    • Travis says:

I know you can do it, Cait – once you lay it all down in numbers and see that it fits, that stress will just melt away. Don’t forget about a little trip to St. Louis in October too. 🙂

  2. I appreciate the mention of my Mortgage Rates Jumping. The 30-yr rate edged over 4% this week. Back to reality!

    • Travis says:

It may have edged over 4%, but that’s still low compared to many periods in the past, right Kurt? I’m glad they didn’t edge up until after my ARM readjusted for the year. 🙂 I’ll have to keep an eye on rates, if they keep moving I may have to think about refinancing.

  3. Great reads! Hope you have a great weekend.

  4. Thanks for mentioning Jen’s contribution this week!

It’s Dance Recital weekend for our daughter – it’s the one time each year I get to see my girl on stage…LOVE this weekend!

We have to schedule our eye exams as well! I guess summer is the time to do it 🙂

Our spending for May was nutso. June will definitely be about tightening the budget.
    Have a great weekend Travis!!

We’re way overdue for eye exams….but it’s so tough to schedule them during the school year for the kids. Looking so forward to school being out and enjoying the summer with the family. Enjoy your weekend as well!

  7. I remember when I was in the mortgage biz years ago, and we were telling people that we would be stunned if the rates dropped below the then current record rate of 5.375. 🙂

    • Travis says:

WOW……Never say never, huh? We have an ARM, and it just re-aged….but stayed the same at 2.875%. I love my interest rate. 🙂

  8. Thanks for the SHOUT OUT on cutting the cord 🙂 It was a grueling process just switching to Verizon, but it’s working well for us! 🙂 I’ll have to go check out the other articles now, too!

Thanks for stopping by Serena! I’m glad it’s working for you! I’d love to hear an update in 6 months or so and see how you and your family have settled into the routine of your solution to see if you’ve had to do any tweaks or not.

  9. Nice collection of links once again. I really liked reading that coupon code confession from Three Thrifty Guys. I think he did the right thing by calling them and telling them what happened. He might have even saved himself a future headache if they decided that he did something wrong by not telling them about it.

    • Travis says:

It was a great read, wasn’t it Zimmy? I agree – it would be quite embarrassing if what he did was discovered. Thanks for checking out the links…I know it’s much appreciated!
