Okay, I’ve been racking my brain about this reality series idea. The more I brainstorm the more awesome I know it will be. I need your help though, and I am giving away THREE BOOKS to the reader who helps me come up with a name for this reality series!!
I NEED YOUR HELP!
Here’s what I have (that I can reveal) and what I need from you — my loyal debt hating readers and soon-to-be audience members of the greatest blog reality series in blog history. 😀
What I Know
(subject to change as new ideas or challenges arise.)
- Competition will last 6 months OR 27 weeks. March 1st – August 31st
- 6 contestants, and 4 stand-in’s, will be selected. Since I will be talking to each contestant once a week, I changed this back to fit a more realistic schedule. I will talk to each contestant once a week on a specific day. The weekly update will be written on the 7th day and posted the following Monday.
- The GRAND PRIZE winner will receive $1,000! (I am considering a possible live finale to present the grand prize.)
- There will be 6 major challenges that each contestant will compete in during this competition.
- The winner chosen for each challenge will win a prize courtesy of the sponsor for that monthly challenge.
- There will be a prize giveaway each month for the “audience” members who *vote for the winners of each monthly challenge.
- There will be 26 weekly updates posted every Monday, which will include my weekly wrap-up, video submissions, and additional commentary and fun from the previous week.
- There’s a possibility that there will be more than one update post per week. (this will depend on how I decide to structure the competition)
- I WILL BE revealing my weight loss information, as embarrassing and as scary as that sounds to me, the same way the contestants will be with their debt and financial information. If they have to do it, SO DO I! I will keep you updated as to what this information will include. If you want to suggest things that I should have to reveal, please do.
- I will brave the scale, and the measuring tape, each and every week for all to see. Total transparency!

What weight loss and health information should I have to reveal during the course of this competition? What stats would you like to know each and every week or month? Should I record everything I eat, how much I exercise, what I weigh, what my measurements are, etc. etc. etc. You decide!

in my head I picture junkyard wars only plastic credit cards and bills piled up.
I may be a tad dramatic.
I think it’s a good idea to get everyone involved. I’m willing to vote for the contestants if I don’t get picked. I live in the US. Also I think it’s good for you to tell us what you eat because what you eat is 80% of the battle. We track every penny we spend so it’s a great idea to track those calories.
And I think “Get Out of Debt Bitches!” may or may not work. That is what I was thinking of using if I ever got around to creating my own blog. LOL
LOLOLOL! “Get Out of Debt Bitches” is certainly in-your-face! I love it! Haha!
I think for the name Enemy of Debt Challenge, I like simplicity. I will vote for any audience participation and I live in Canada.
For weight loss I would like to see weight or BMI every week and exercise per day. As I am trying to lose weight too this year it will be fun to follow along with you (I want to lose 40 lbs). As a side note writing down everything you eat and how much water you drink helps to stay on track.

If you plan to continue this every year or so, you could also add sequels titles, like “Circle of Debt”. I think I may be watching too many movies.

For your challenge, I think it would be great for you to post what you’re eating daily, what exercises you are doing daily, what you struggled with each day to stay on track w/ a level of difficulty, and your weekly stats (weight, bmi, etc).
If I don’t become a contestant, I will definitely participate in the voting process.
My favourite name is “Enemy of Debt’s Race to Freedom” because it’s more than debt elmimination. It’s about being free from the cycle of building up debt and then paying off again. If chosen to be a contestant, it’d be great to vote for the winners of the audience giveaway. I live in Canada.
Readers: In terms of audience participation and voting: If it’s about numbers or percentages of debt paid down the numbers would determine the winner. Otherwise I’d love to throw in my 2 cents!
You should share your weight, bmi (I think you need to track your inches for this?), meal plans and amount of exercise done in a week. I think the BMI or inches lost are important because it shows the changes in your body as you plateau.
I would love to be a contestant but I don’t have the confidence and I probably won’t get picked, SO I commit to vote as an audience member. I love this idea and think it will be super motivational! And I love the race to freedom name. It’s inspiring. Love your blog!!
If I’m not selected to participate in the contest, count on me to vote. For weight loss info, Exercise information (frequency, length, intensity – what activity did you do), and once a week weigh in. BMI wouldn’t be a bad idea either.
Oh, and if I was chosen as a contenstant, I live in the US (Rochester, MN) – and would definitely be willing to vote for the audience participation winners.

I would love to be a contestant. I am 30 and live in vancouver with husband and 2 yr old son. if we do not get out of debt, we will never buy a house, savings, or have any retirement. we are month to month and struggling to make it every month. with 7 years of bad habits to kick. it could change our life if we did this now. We need help as paying off debt seems impossible at this point.
