That Is The Question! I have not announced this here on EOD yet, but thought that today would be the best time to do so. Alana and I are having another baby, due to arrive on October 26th to be exact. I am very excited about this and today we find out whether we are having a boy or a girl. I LOVE BEING A DAD, it is the best gift EVER! What Do I Hope We Are Having? Honestly it really doesn’t matter to me. Either way I will be excited just the same. I do hope that my […] Read more »
Motivation 101 – What You Believe, Is What You Achieve!
Dawn and I have been going back and forth for days now. I wanted to share with you the difference between her and I, mainly by pointing out why I think she is wrong in her thinking. Her thinking is how most people look at it, and what I am trying to do here at EOD is to show people that there is another way that provides more options. I believe that more options translates into a higher success rate. A lot of people limit themselves by not realizing their options. I think Dawn dwells on the problem instead of […] Read more »
Motivation 101 – Saving To Buy, Instead Of Buying To Slave!
Can You Buy A House, Have A Car, Or Go To College Without Debt? With a plan you can! It seems like every time I write an article like this I lose a few subscribers. That’s fine, I am fully aware that I will not please everyone. This would be too easy if I could, and frankly I like the challenge. For some reason people seem to get angry about someone (me) telling them that it is ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE to live life without accepting the chains and bondage that come with debt. I could speculate all day long about why […] Read more »
12 Steps To Debt Freedom
I am addicted to becoming and staying debt free! Are you addicted to becoming and staying debt free? If so, these are the principles and ideas that you would follow to achieve such a thing. You have probably heard about the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, and how they really help these folks cope from day to day. I just created 12 principles very loosely based on those of AA, with a debt free spin. I really just got the idea of where and how to list them, and then I just started thinking of all the things one […] Read more »
Looking To Make Some Changes This Week
Time For Change! I am really hoping to make some changes to Enemy of Debt this coming week. The plan is to find a theme, free or paid for, that will make your visit to Enemy of Debt better, as well as make some other changes and additions. Time to put the navigation bar out of it’s misery! Finally!! Goals: Change Theme Create a list of links that will help you go to the articles that you most want to see, depending on your stage in the process. Put together a list of outside resources. (calculators, budget tools etc.) Those […] Read more »
Monkey See, Monkey Don’t!
MONKEY SEE, MONKEY DON’T I have said before that Washington is in desperate need of a Total Money Makeover. If you have been keeping up with current events in Washington then you probably are aware of the current spending proposal to “stimulate” the economy. If not, then you should be, because your tax dollars are being wasted on a daily basis. (Nothing new right?) In fact, your grandchildren are going to be footing the bill. It’s no wonder that most of America has a hard time managing their money, when they watch “supposedly” intelligent minds in Washington giving them […] Read more »
Dave Ramsey for President 2008
President Ramsey? No, Dave Ramsey isn’t running for President, but if he was, I would probably vote for him. He has expressed his opinion and has made it clear he does not want the job. Personally, I do not blame him, but boy would it be nice to have a Government with a ZERO-BASED BUDGET? It would be nice to have someone who knows how to cut expenses and knows the difference between a want and a need. Someone who knows all to well how it feels to hit rock bottom, and someone who knows how to bounce back by […] Read more »
How Can We Love Our Children More?
That’s How! Our Children Really Are The Future If you have children I can not think of anything as important as teaching them how to manage money at a very early age. Think about it for a second. If you would have learned about money at a young age you could have avoided so many of the financial pitfalls that most of us deal with. I know I would have loved to learn this stuff early on. It would have kept me from paying extensive amounts of “Stupid Tax”, as Dave Ramsey calls it. Stupid Tax is money that we […] Read more »
If My Words Were A Hand, They’d Be Slapping Some Sense Into You!
STOP BORROWING MONEY!!! Just to clear things up, the title isn’t to be taken literally. It’s just my way of grabbing your attention and telling you that if you are in debt, you need to hear this!! So LISTEN UP! This is perhaps the most important thing to learn after getting yourself on a budget. Dumping your debt will help you gain traction and in return offer you a hope you have never imagined. The reason is because all of the things most people have their money spent on before they ever get paid, steals their hope. When you accept […] Read more »
The “B” Word!
Yeah I said it, the “B” word….Budget. My FPU class just finished Lesson Three called Cash Flow Planning, and when most of us think about a budget, all kinds of negative thoughts surface. First we think it will keep us from having fun. If you are like me then you may have thought it was more trouble than it was worth. Seriously, why should we do a budget when it always seems to collapse midway through the month? Most of us have avoided doing a budget our entire life all because of these misconceptions. The truth is that the budget […] Read more »
Relationships That Count
You Do It! If there is one thing that comes through clearly in the “Relating With Money” lesson it is that we all need support and encouragement. We need each other. If you are married, you need your spouse in order for this money thing to work. If you are single you need someone to hold you accountable. So many people that I know use the “you do it” philosophy when it comes to money. I have too. When Alana and I first got married, she was the one who controlled the finances. That was until we had a few […] Read more »
A Gentle Scream!
How can a scream be gentle? Debt CONsolidation is a CON. It’s what normal people do and normal people are broke. normal people do it because they are conned into believing that it will solve all their problems. If saving interest on a few STUPID debts and giving it to the broke guy conning you, is your idea of fixing your problems, then consider being weird for a moment. Why pay someone to cut you? Paying someone to “work out your life” is not what you need. All you are doing is moving your debt, that’s it. There’s not […] Read more »
What If You Were Recession Proof?
Are we experiencing a recession? That seems to be the question of the year. If you watch the news, you are probably convinced that you should just give up. Don’t start digging that bunker just yet. The truth is that the U.S. is merely growing at a slower rate. From January to March the economy grew at the same rate of 0.6 percent, as the last quarter of 2007. Slow, but still growing. A recession is defined as a period of economic decline; specifically, a decline in GDP, for two or more consecutive quarters. Maybe we should wait until we […] Read more »
Are Your Priorities Backwards?
I keep seeing this commercial on T.V. and everytime it drives me just as crazy as the time before! The line that drives me absolutely mad is this one: “Far too many Americans health care and financial security are at risk.” It goes on to say that, “Health Care costs are driving American families into bankruptcy.” AHHHHHHH! That is exactly what is wrong with this country today!! What is driving American families into bankruptcy is American families! It is US that is responsible for these stupid decisions that we make, not health care costs! Sure health care costs may […] Read more »
