Can You Buy A House, Have A Car, Or Go To College Without Debt? With a plan you can! It seems like every time I write an article like this I lose a few subscribers. That’s fine, I am fully aware that I will not please everyone. This would be too easy if I could, and frankly I like the challenge. For some reason people seem to get angry about someone (me) telling them that it is ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE to live life without accepting the chains and bondage that come with debt. I could speculate all day long about why […] Read more »
A Destructive Mindset: Is This What You Believe Too?
Becoming Debt Free Is Priceless Indeed I was reading an article yesterday titled, Debt-Free: Priceless, and the one and only comment on this article blew me away! Seriously, the comment brought me to my knees, like kryptonite did Superman! Back to the ice cave! The article talked about what a Federal Bankruptcy Judge was doing to combat the destructive nature of credit card abuse, that possibly led people to his courtroom to declare themselves bankrupt. “John C. Ninfo II, a federal bankruptcy judge, has founded the Credit Abuse Resistance Education (CARE) Program, www.careprogram.us, a national initiative to teach high school […] Read more »
Got Credit Cards? Here’s Another Reason To Say Goodbye!
There are some that are so adamant about the fact that credit card companies are NOT bad, and do NOT take advantage of consumers. I disagree, and I think that an article I came across from dailyfinance.com proves otherwise. For the minority that have the discipline to not carry a balance, you will be okay, but for the rest of you who use credit cards to subsidize your income, you might want to consider cutting the cord! The article states that, “credit card companies are insisting upon exercising their right to abuse their customers in the name of higher […] Read more »
Motivation 101 – YOU CAN DO IT TOO!
Are You Motivated? Chances are, you often feel overwhelmed with your financial situation, and like most, you want to do something about it. There are many things that keep us from doing what we know we should do. Time constraints, lack of energy, procrastination, depression, and even addictions to name a few. One that people rarely consider is negativity from the people around them. People will rain on your parade in a second once you start talking about quitting something they too are doing. Whether it be shopping, smoking, going on a diet, exercising, or changing your financial habits, people […] Read more »
As Seen On CNN.com
An Unusual Day In The Life Of A Part Time Blogger Well let me start by saying, WOW!!! Today was an extraordinary day for me. Two weeks ago I was contacted through my website by Jim Kavanagh, a writer for CNN.com. When I woke up this morning I had no idea what I was in for. Kavanagh wrote a terrific story called, Walking Away From Credit Cards, which highlighted the fact that some people have chosen to say NO to credit cards. I was quoted as saying, “Credit card debt is our biggest hindrance in being able to take care […] Read more »

Are You Getting Bit By Snakes?
When You Ignore The Warnings, Getting Bit Shouldn’t Be A Surprise! On my way home tonight I heard on the radio some hissing from people getting upset because Credit Card companies have started to rattle their tails. It started near the end of last year when credit card companies started lowering consumers credit limits, to no doubt protect themselves from the possibility of continued economic decline. The following article excerpt sheds some light on the problem this is causing for people: “Texas-based flight attendant Lilli Durbin used to have six credit cards (my emphasis added), which is fairly typical for […] Read more »
Debt-ception – Why Do We Fall For The Lie?
Debt-ception Is Everywhere! The use of debt is rampant and highly irresponsible. Because we think the good outweighs the bad, we allow ourselves to justify its use. We tell ourselves that it is okay because it is helping us, ignoring all of the signs of its destruction. We have replaced good old fashioned savings for the servitude and hardship that debt brings us. In my opinion we have done this because we have forgotten that no journey worth taking is easy. We have lost hope in our lives and in ourselves, but I know how to get that back. Learning […] Read more »
Just Say NO To Debt CONsolidation!
Once a month I may get something from a company that wants to partner with Enemy of Debt in some way. The one I received today was a little different but not really. She claimed to read a blog of mine, but maybe she needed to read more of them before contacting me. Her company was nothing more than a debt CONsolidation and negotiation company. My response was respectful, but to the point. The OFFER: Hi! I was checking out an article called “I Hate Debt, What About You” on your site www.enemyofdebt.com, and was thinking that I have a […] Read more »
Debt – [det] A Financial Storm Cloud
Student Loans Often Overstay Their Welcome Just as many of you, we used student loans. We had about four total. We currently have one left and that makes us VERY happy! We used every last dollar we could squeeze out of our budget, to pay on our debt snowball in March. We were very blessed and were able to pay off $1,325 which actually paid off one completely. (See our updated DEBT FREE progress chart.) I was looking at our current updated balance when I noticed something very amusing. The scheduled pay off date was not until 10/21/18!!!! 10 YEARS […] Read more »
Dave Ramsey for President 2008
President Ramsey? No, Dave Ramsey isn’t running for President, but if he was, I would probably vote for him. He has expressed his opinion and has made it clear he does not want the job. Personally, I do not blame him, but boy would it be nice to have a Government with a ZERO-BASED BUDGET? It would be nice to have someone who knows how to cut expenses and knows the difference between a want and a need. Someone who knows all to well how it feels to hit rock bottom, and someone who knows how to bounce back by […] Read more »
Are You Waiting For Washington To Save The Day?
As it stands now this is not a political blog, and I want to keep it that way. However, with the upcoming election, coupled with recent events (bailout, mortgage crisis) and the state of our economy, I feel it is important to address this issue. It seems that so many people are putting all of their faith into electing a President that they feel will fly down from the sky with his Presidential cape and leotards to save the day. Why is that? Do people really believe that Washington is going to come to the rescue? Do you really […] Read more »
Murphy’s Fall
Murphy’s Fall? I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to something that you have or will possibly go through. I have coined the term “Murphy’s Fall”. Murphy’s Fall isn’t the fall of Murphy. Instead it is something you yourself go through because of Murphy. That’s right. It’s what can happen when Murphy has moved in and just doesn’t want to leave. It could be equivalent to what marathoners call “The Wall”, which is when a marathoner reaches the 20 mile mark and starts to rationalize giving up. It’s when you start to tell yourself that you have […] Read more »
To Be Bullied Or Not Be Bullied, That Is The Question
I think that dealing with creditors is probably one of the most emotional experiences one can have at a time when they are likely the most vulnerable. Think about it. When you owe someone money and they are constantly hounding you to pay what you already know you owe, it can break anyone down who does not know how to handle them. Usually what happens is they use tactics to bully you into using your grocery money to pay them NOW! Credit Sharks In Suits (FPU Lesson) is great for helping you learn how to deal with these sharks, as […] Read more »
