When you are out this weekend and pull out your plastic companion to pay for something I want you to think about this post. I want you to think about Enemy of Debt. Your Comfort Zone – Is It Really Your Friend Or Actually Your Foe?
Does Fear Keep You In Your Comfort Zone? “Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new.” ~ Brian Tracy About five years ago I had a conversation with my father-in-law that changed how I started making decisions. It really didn’t happen overnight exactly, but it did happen. There was a time when I lacked confidence in myself and my ability that kept me from experiencing my potential. I was told that I needed to step outside of my comfort zone, that I needed to […] Read more »
15 Books Everyone Should Read At Least Twice
Reading Rocks! Recently, Newsweek published an article with what they called, 50 Must Reads Now, And Why. Now I am certain some of the books they picked are great reads, but I am also sure that they left better ones out. So I came up with a list of financial books I think everyone should read. More than half of these I have read, and the rest are on my to-read list. The ones that I haven’t read have been highly recommended by others with great enthusiasm. These books will help you in everyday life, and will motivate, inspire, and […] Read more »
Motivation 101 – YOU CAN DO IT TOO!
Are You Motivated? Chances are, you often feel overwhelmed with your financial situation, and like most, you want to do something about it. There are many things that keep us from doing what we know we should do. Time constraints, lack of energy, procrastination, depression, and even addictions to name a few. One that people rarely consider is negativity from the people around them. People will rain on your parade in a second once you start talking about quitting something they too are doing. Whether it be shopping, smoking, going on a diet, exercising, or changing your financial habits, people […] Read more »
7 Tips To Make Your Budget Work
1. Maintain An Emergency Fund Of $1,000 This is very important! If you do not have an adequate emergency fund when life happens to you, you will feel defeated. It has a very negative impact on your desire to budget when you have to reorganize EVERYTHING to pay for emergencies. If you have an emergency fund all you have to do is cover the emergency without reorganizing the entire budget. 2. Remember That You & Your Spouse Are On The Same Team The friction caused by disagreement will often cause the budget to be a flop before it ever has […] Read more »
Murphy’s Fall
Murphy’s Fall? I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to something that you have or will possibly go through. I have coined the term “Murphy’s Fall”. Murphy’s Fall isn’t the fall of Murphy. Instead it is something you yourself go through because of Murphy. That’s right. It’s what can happen when Murphy has moved in and just doesn’t want to leave. It could be equivalent to what marathoners call “The Wall”, which is when a marathoner reaches the 20 mile mark and starts to rationalize giving up. It’s when you start to tell yourself that you have […] Read more »
Taxes, Incentives, and Less Government
Hijacking Incentive Since 1913 I was reminded today of how much I hate taxes so I thought I would come here to cry about it. 🙂 My wife had to meet with Human Resources this morning for her new job and they informed her that the $2,000 bonus she is to receive will get hit by taxes to the tune of 38%. WHAT!!! Out of $2,000 we are only going to see $1240? (Counting to 10 to gain composure.) …8, 9, 10. (Deep Breath) You mean to tell me that the Government needs to misuse and blow $760 just because […] Read more »
Poverty To Prosperity
This is an age old problem that seems to never go away. How do you end poverty completely and is it even possible? I believe that there is an answer to this question, and believe it or not, the Government is not it. The answer is YOU! The way you think, the way you learn, and the actions you take all determine where you end up. If you can work, then you can change your future. I always remember the true story, made into a movie, where Will Smith plays a homeless man that constantly faces challenges and disappointments in […] Read more »
