Happy Super Bowl weekend, EOD Nation! I’m excited for the game, I think it’s going to be a good one.  The last few years, in my opinion, the commercials haven’t been very good. Fate hit me hard this week.  I knew it was coming, and I even wrote about it in my post earlier this week.  We had someone come and look at our extremely loud washing machine and my fears proved correct.  The drum bearing was going bad, and the service person deemed it was not worth the cost of parts and labor to fix on our 15 year old washing machine.  We were instructed to go to a local appliance store where we were given a dollar amount towards a new washer. We’re bracing for a winter storm to hit Minnesota today.  School was cancelled last night, and everyone (including myself) went to the grocery store to stock up on supplies. Which is kind of silly because the storm will last a grand total of 24-36 hours.  I’m pretty sure we had enough food to survive one day without leaving the house.  But, NFL playoffs are on tomorrow, and then Sunday it may still be windy and raw.  So, I don’t have to go outside at all this weekend if I don’t want to. Happy Friday, EOD Nation! We’ve concluded all our holiday gatherings and have abolutely nowhere we need to go. Which is good, because it’s a wintery weekend in the Midwest, with the potential of some icy, snowy weather.  Feels like a great weekend to stay indoors, make some chili and watch the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL playoffs.  Relaxing, low key and inexpensive.  Sounds great to me! It’s been a hard week in my home, as we had to say goodbye to one of our cats. We were blessed with her for over 16 years, our kids literally don’t remember life with out her. She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism a few months ago, and while we had that under control with medication the vet thinks she threw a clot mid-week that went to her back end rendering her back legs only partially operative.  My wife, I and our daughter surrounded her with love as the vet sent her across the rainbow bridge. I’m going to have an incredible steak and king crab leg dinner this weekend at a fantastic restaurant.  Just kidding.  Well, I am going to have that meal, but I’m making it at home. Today is that shopping phenomenon known as Black Friday.  Crowds of people will flood stores looking for the best deal.  Once again, I found the best possible deal – I saved 100% by staying home and sleeping in. I prefer to take my time, shop around, and find exactly the product I’m looking for, preferably online.  Then I just wait for it to show up on my doorstep. Happy Friday, EOD Nation! I’m now 10 weeks post Achilles tendon repair surgery, out of the boot and walking in shoes for 3.5 weeks. Literally 10 minutes ago I figured out why I was still limping, and why my groin and hip was hurting. I wasn’t trusting my tendon, cutting my stride with my right foot short.  The pulling up of my leg prematurely was aggravating my groin and hip.  Once I let my stride fully complete, allowing my foot to roll and my tendon bend the way it’s supposed to, my limp is gone and I no longer get […] Read more »

This weekend’s project is to put up additional shelving in our mechanical room. I have two rebate certificates from Menards totaling about $100 I earned from purchases made during the summer.  Menards commonly has 11% rebate promotions, and one just happened to coincide with some larger purchases I was making anyway.  I’ll get something knocked off the “honey-do” list, and it won’t cost me a single dollar.  Can’t beat that! Last night my wife and I went out with some friends to watch the Minnesota Vikings play on Thursday Night Football.  The four of us went to a local micro-brewery, ate from a food truck that was there, had a few adult beverages, and played football bingo.  Each of us got a bingo card on which the squares contained a football event description (TD, Fumble, Field Goal, etc).
