I love his comment about budgeting per paycheck instead of per month. That makes so much sense to me. I’ve been procrastinating on the budget b/c it seems overwhelming. But, 2 week budget seem reasonable.

My biggest problem…convincing my husband that this is what we need to do. I gave up my 30k/yr to raise our kids. I work part time now, but we cut out ‘all’ the extras last year and are still living paycheck to paycheck. So guess what’s next, the vacation club, the boat, the big cell phone plan…it was much easier giving up the daily $10 lunches and all the channels on TV.

    I HATE DEBT!

    • @moneyfunk – glad you liked it! :)

@Pamala – I agree about budgeting weekly. It’s why I decided to include the allocated budget sheet in my last budget update. Oh and about your last remark. Those words make me smile. Debt is a great thing to hate! :D

  2. Great post! And congrats on your dedication to getting out of debt.

Also, I agree with budgeting every payperiod. I budget every week and it really does help. You see the nitty gritty of the bigger picture in mind.

And the other comment, “It is said that once you start doing smart things with money, money finds you.” This is where I feel I am at. Ideas are flowing in how to bring in extra income, cutting the “extras” is freeing up money, etc… It really is an exciting time to see it Snowball. And it is great to have my family involved in this task.

Thanks for the great post. Very inspirational.

  3. I never heard of budgeting weekly, but come to think of it soceity conditions us to think that way though. I will definatly be putting that tip to good use.
It also inspires me that if Michael can get out of debt in a year than maybe I could too. However, first things first I need to get a weekly more accurate budget set up.
    Thanks for all the tips.

  7. Some of the Dave Ramsey followers stories are just incredibly inspiring. This one is nothing different. I hope everyone can take Ramsey’s ways seriously to try and get out of debt.
