Make 2013 Debt Free…Join the Debt Movement

debt movementDid you ever wonder why New Year’s resolutions never last? Each year as I resolve to quit all the bad habits I developed over the previous year, I always do. But if you take the right approach to a resolution such as “getting out of debt”, there’s no reason you can’t be successful.

If you’ve been working to get out of debt with little success and need a kick start, consider joining the Debt Movement! We all need a little help from time to time whether it’s a debt relief plan that makes the process easier, a nudge in the right direction or some incentive to get us motivated. The debt movement provides all of the above and more; including words of encouragement from those that have been in your shoes, sound advice from financial experts, and the tools and resources to make your resolution a reality.

What is the Debt Movement?

Jeff Rose of Good Financial Cents came up with the Debt Movement with the goal of helping readers of the financial blogging community pay off $10,000,000 of debt in 90 days. There’s strength in numbers, and that is the premise behind the movement.

Jeff has gathered various financial experts, personal finance bloggers, and sponsors to provide the resources and support those struggling with debt need to get started on their journey to debt freedom.

I would love to participate, but I really don’t want access to my banking and credit card information out there. I am really surprised with all of the security breaches that are happening that anyone would trust a website to have user names and passwords to their financial institutions.

    • Hi Mary – I’m the Community Outreach and Customer Support Manager of ReadyForZero and I’m happy to address your concerns. We use bank-level security and we don’t store any of the usernames and passwords that you use when linking your financial institutions to your ReadyForZero account. Once you enter those in, a live link is created that is broken any time you want to delete the account. Here’s a link to our security page for more information: https://www.readyforzero.com/security

If you’re still not comfortable with this, then I completely understand. We can actually manually track your debt pay down for The Debt Movement and all you’d have to do is send us an email with the amount you’ve paid down as you go. I’ll then make sure that the tracker is updated with this amount. Please feel free to email me at help@readyforzero.com if you have any questions!

Could be get a more descriptive name? Debt movement could be pro and against debt. How about antidebt or debtelimination or debtfree?

When I saw “Debt Movement” I thought to myself , a pro debt movement? No thank you!

Thanks for addressing my concern about security. However, after signing up I learned that ReadyForZero
does not have my financial institution on their list and after sending an email, it doesn’t appear that they will be adding them. Not sure if the reason is that it is a credit union, or if the credit union declined an offer to participate. Either way, it would not not work for me since all my accounts are there.

    Thanks again

    • You’re very welcome and I’m so sorry things didn’t work out! It is true that our data provider doesn’t list all banks and credit unions and, because of this, we’re in the process of creating a manual entry tool as an alternative and/or supplement to linking accounts. If you’re interested in getting an email from us when it’s complete, please email me at help@readyforzero.com and I’ll be happy to keep you in the loop!

Otherwise, I appreciate your comments and feedback!
