Like clockwork, it happened again. The lamp for my LCD TV (which is our family’s primary TV) blew again. This seems to happen every year right around Christmastime. I checked my Amazon history, and sure enough the last bulb arrived on 12/23/2012. These things are supposed to last YEARS – however this TV is known for blowing the bulbs. At one point they did give owners of the TVs a sum of money to go buy a new TV…but you had to know about the offer and contact them. We found out about it long after the program had ended. So here we are stuck with a TV that blows a bulb about every 12 months. The good news is, a new bulb now costs about $38 from Amazon – when we first bought the TV they were $325.
The bulb should be delivered today, and once that TV is working again I’ll be doing a little fist pumping of my own…

Emergency Fund Update
Paycheck week, up it goes!
- Total Balance: $400
- Goal Balance: $1000 (by February 28th)
Marathon Training Update
You’ll note the exact same status as last week below. I’m tracking my weight on the Wii, which is hooked up to the TV with the blown bulb, and I didn’t feel like moving it. So, new numbers next week. Five miles is becoming my “standard” run, so I need to start stretching one longer run each week as well as mixing in some speed work. Runners run!
- 11/22 Weight : 211.4 (-1.6)
- Total Weight Loss: (+0.4)
- Goal Weight : 185.0
Well, that doesn’t sound like too much fun. Sorry to hear about the constant yearly bulb buying.
I appreciate the mention to my article. Thank you for the support Travis!
The good news is that the cost isn’t insane to replace the bulb…and it only took about a week for the replacement to get here. It’s back up and running now. The TV is going on 10 years old, and I’d bet we won’t have to replace the bulb too many more times. 🙂
Sorry to hear about the blown lamp, though it’s cool that it’s come down in price to where it’s reasonable at least. Five miles has also become the standard run for my wife and think she’ll be doing a half marathon in the near future…though I’d rather ride our bike in the basement. 😉 Thanks for mentioning Cat’s post Travis, I really appreciate it!
Hey, the bike is a great choice as well, John – keep pounding out those miles. Thanks for stopping by!
I wonder if anyone has ever done a study to see how many financial bloggers are also runners – it seems to be a whole lot I’ve stumbled across lately (myself definitely NOT being one, lol).
Good luck with your emergency fund!
I’ve become connected with quite a few fellow bloggers that are runners, so I know what you mean. I wonder if there’s some connection with people just trying to better themselves in general, whether it be physically or financially? Thanks for reading, Mel!
Well, the good news is that you know how to fix it yourself, right? 🙂 Thanks for the mention, Travis – I appreciate it!! Happy weekend to you. 🙂
Exactly, Laurie…putting in the bulb takes about 2 minutes. My daughter was ecstatic when the new bulb came late Friday afternoon – since all her shows are recorded on the DVR attached to that TV! Hope you had a great weekend!
That bulb problem sounds annoying! Good thing it’s a lot cheaper now, though!
Definitely a good thing, Lisa! However it still leaves us with an out of commission TV for about a week! Thanks for commenting!
