Self-Reliance: A Thing Of The Past, Or A New Frontier?

As my readers know I am pretty big on personal responsibility. By staying away from the blame game that keeps us static, we should tap into our own abilities to resolve the most complex of problems.  I believe that we have within us a tremendous ability to make things happen for ourselves.

Today, there seems to be a growing effort to stifle those abilities, and I believe that is a big mistake. We have gone from a country of creativity and ingenuity to what seems to be one of entitlements and dependence. I am very happy to announce that I am now part of a collaborative effort to bring the term self-reliance back into our homes once again.  We call it the Self-Reliance-Works.

Our goals—as stated on the website:

“As the name would suggest, this site is about self reliance. More importantly, it’s a place for connecting with our regular writers, readers and guest post providers who believe that a self directed life is wise and worthy of embracing.

Self reliance is a broad theme, and there are many categories of information that you’ll find here. All are related to living a more deliberate and self-directed life of your own choosing. This site was created to provide quality material, well organized and presented, to address in a comprehensive manner the broad needs of individuals who have chosen to live a lifestyle characterized by self reliance instead of being increasingly dependent on others.”

We will be covering a vast area of knowledge and know how and our number one objective is to share it with you.

I know that this new venture will help many people and I know it can help you. If you want to learn about gardening, raising chickens, frugal living, debt free living, solar energy, and personal finance, just to name a few—this site is for you.

I would ask that you head on over to the Self-Reliance-Works and show your support for our mission.  The site just launched yesterday but there is some great information already available to you.  We will be working very hard to give you everything you crave in order to be more self-reliant in your own lives.  As I always say—YOU CAN DO IT, but first you have to believe.  What you believe is what you achieve!

HAVE A SAFE AND WONDERFUL WEEKEND!

Brad, I went to your Self Reliance site but couldn’t seem to find a place to subscribe. Help please.

  2. Great site Brad I look forward to reading more from it. Also I could not find a place to subscribe as well.

  3. Sharon:

The RSS feed is in the upper right hand corner of the blog. We’re going to move it soon so it’s more noticeable in the header, and we’ll put a subscription box on the right sidebar in the very near future.

Thanks for your interest in our new adventure in self reliant living.

I went ahead and linked to the RSS Feed on the Self-Reliance-Exchange so you should be able to just click the “Be sure to subscribe” link here as well as above in the post itself.

Congrats on the new venture, Brad! I love the concept and idea of self reliance. I want to learn how to raise chicken too! Just have to figure out a place to keep them, first. 🙂

  6. Shawanda says:

Brad – What an awesome concept. “Do for yourself when it is possible to do so.” I try to encourage those who are closest to me to be more self reliant for their own benefit and mine as well.

Dave – Thanks, I hope you enjoy it man! I am going to enjoy being a part of such a great idea.

Karen – Yeah a chicken coop would be key, but when you do have one at least you know where to go to learn more about it. 😀

Shawanda – Thanks! It is definitely a concept that is lost these days. Let’s hope that people can realize why self reliance is the key to becoming whatever it is that they want to be in life. Anything is possible when you realize that, no matter what, you can take the actions needed to make it happen.

  7. Jesse says:

I share the same sentiment. Self reliance has been one of my goals since..forever. I don’t want to have to depend on anyone else, ever. I also want to be able to help others when necessary. I am looking forward to the new sites future.

  8. I love this post. I would add that the mind is the most valuable asset for living!

Ralph Waldo Emerson – Self Reliance – Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind.
