Welcoming a New Baby into Our Family

Hello everyone! I hope you’re having a great week so far! ๐Ÿ˜€

I just wanted to announce something I am very excited about. In fact, it has been hard not to spill the beans before now, although a few of my closest family and friends know. It’s TOUGH keeping a secret like this one!

We’re having a baby, due on October 3rd!! We haven’t yet found out the sex of the baby but like any other time, we’ll be happy with whatever we have — boy or girl. My daughter Caitlin is 15, Isaac is almost 5, and Noah is 17 months old.

One of the things that make watching your family grow up, is all of the unique personalities they end up developing. Caitlin’s the quiet one, Isaac is very outgoing and polite, and Noah is the finicky one. It sure is fun watching them grow up! I know there are some people that would rather not have kids, possibly even you, but I think children are the most rewarding experience we could ever have in our life.

I couldn’t imagine going through life without children. The things they say. The way they think. The innocence they keep. Most of all though, the happiness they bring. I can honestly say that it is my children that have taught me the most about love and life!

As a very proud father, I love my children more than any other thing in this world. Like most parents, I would give it all up for them without question.

Since this is a personal finance site, I can’t help but mention that your children are the most important reason for you to eliminate your debt and stick to your financial plan. The biggest struggles in life tend to involve money and relationships. Teaching your children about money and debt, and giving them the tools they need to avoid the financial problems most of us have had to deal with, is perhaps, one of the most important lessons you can teach them. Doing so will also give them a much better chance at having a happy and loving marriage of their own.

You better believe it when I say I’m raising some financially savvy, debt hating children to the core! They’ll be no encouraging them to “build their credit score” by going into debt. That stupid myth stops HERE! ๐Ÿ˜€

Have a great day! ๐Ÿ˜€

Congrats Brad!!!!!!! That is really awesome news! Everything I learned about personal finance was self taught. It’s really nice that you’re starting early with your little ones. It’s gonna pay off big time when they get to college.

    • Brad Chaffee says:

Thanks Crystal! Yeah, I was self taught too, unfortunately my teacher was raw experience. LOL There is no way to know for sure whether or not I will save my children from debt, but I can do all I can to help guide them in the right direction. ๐Ÿ˜€

Congrats my friend! Having a new member of the family is always a blessing! Your quiver is certainly full!

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; Ps 127

  3. Congratulations! We just welcomed our first child into our home and it’s been wonderful. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy!

  4. Ruby says:

What exciting news! You have a wonderful family and this will be a great contribution…I commend your patience with the gender- I’m far too impatient for those kinds of surprises and totally sit on pins and needles for that information!

So excited for you- sincere congrats! ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Brad Chaffee says:

Thank you so much Ruby! Yeah my patience is okay, but my wife on the other hand…well that’s an entirely different story! LOL She wanted to know 3 months ago the second she found out she was pregnant. haha! She is even entertaining the idea of paying $75 to find out earlier than we would if we wait on the doctor. $75 is a lot of money to find out something you will find out anyway weeks later, but I know how bad she wants to know, so we’ll probably do it, just so she doesn’t drive us crazy! HAHA! ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. Money Momma says:

Congrats!!!! Maybe our little ones will share a birthday, our newest baby was born on September 28th (he was due Oct 26th). Wishing you and your family a smooth pregnancy.

    • Brad Chaffee says:

Thank you Money Momma!! That’s funny! The due date was picked as October 3rd but the last doc visit, they told us it could be September 28th due to the measurements. LOL I’ll keep you posted for sure! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Erin says:

Congrats Brad!!! Kids are so much fun!

  7. Travis @DebtChronicles says:

Congratulations, Brad and family! You know….when you tweeted a link to an article about pregnancy expenses earlier today I was actually thinking of asking you if you were trying to tell us something…

    • Brad Chaffee says:

LOL, that’s funny Travis! Here’s the thing. It was that post that reminded me that it was okay to tell people. We had the first ultra sound last week, and I have been keeping it a secret for so long I forgot that I could shout about it. LOL I’m super excited dude! I can’t wait!

  8. Wojo says:

That’s fantastic news, congratulations! We’re still on our first, but we hope to have a family as big as yours one day. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Scraps says:

Congrats Brad to you and your family.

You are correct children – are a blessing from Heaven and must be cherished and nutured as such.

Continue to teach them the best in life as much as you can and God will do the rest.

I come to this sight each day to learn something new and pass it along to others. Just as you have given me things to think about, I look to you to do the same with your children. You are correct, running to credit to get good credit is the slickest advertisement in the world – that all of us did – until wisdom stepped in.

One thing I have learned from you is this – If I don’t have any credit score, it really does not matter, NO ONE SAYS NO TO CASH!!!!! L.O.L.

    • Brad Chaffee says:

Right on scraps! You’ve been with me since the very beginning!

Haha! No one says no to cash is right!! LOL That’s what I’m talking about. It feels great knowing that we won’t have to be a slave to a system that encourages debt. We’ll never own another credit card, nor will we borrow a single dime from anyone for any reason.

I LOVE IT! Thanks for the support scraps!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Beckey & Jeff says:

Congratulations to you and your family! We are expecting also and are due on August 23rd, we are hoping to find out the sex on March 25 at our next ultrasound appointment. I’m sure you will do fine with this child, just as you have with your other children.

    • Brad Chaffee says:

Thanks Beckey and Jeff! Congratulations to you as well!

My wife wants to pay $75 to find out the sex early. Haha! I’ve said no the last two times, but I think I’ll give in this time just because we’re debt free and can, and she deserves a nice surprise for being such a great wife and mother! ๐Ÿ˜€

A lot of people seem to be having babies this year! What an exciting year this will be!!

      • Beckey & Jeff says:

Thank you, this is our first so we are a bit anxious! Guess we are lucky, the insurance provided by my employer covers ALL expenses to do with pregnancy, so it isn’t going to cost us anything. We want to find out just because it will make it easier with planning and such.

  11. Diana says:

Congratulations to you and your wife!!! I agree that it’s so important to teach our kids the proper way to handle our finances, not only to make our lives easier, but to glorify God in the process. Your journey to become debt free will have an impact for generations to come!!

  12. Kirstin says:

Congratulations! Kids are awesome, I am amazed and proud of my 2.5 year old every day. Exciting for your family!

    • Brad Chaffee says:

Kids always find a way to me us smile don’t they. Sure they have their moments but life without them would be incomplete! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m always reminded of the show Kids Say The Darnedest Things!

  13. Penny says:

Congrats to you and your family! Such an exciting time.

  14. Kaye says:

Congrats to you & your family. I agree…I had no idea how much I didn’t know and needed to learn (about myself and so many other things) until we had our son. When our daughter later arrived, I found out how much MORE I needed to learn. We’re done having children so I can pretend I know it all now. =)

  15. Shawanda says:

Congratulations, Brad! That’s awesome news for you and your family! I don’t have any kids of my own just yet, but parenthood sounds like a blast.

  16. Jeff Kosola says:

Awesome dude, I’m so happy for you. October 3rd is a great day ๐Ÿ™‚ #3 for me is due June 14th, so I’m only beating you by a bit for this year. Now I know what you meant about 36 being a SUPER DUPER Year.

    • Brad Chaffee says:

Haha! That’s right dude. I wanted to just scream at the top of my lungs but I learned my lesson about doing that too early. Part of the super duper year stuff has to do with me losing weight too and who knows, other things could happen to top it off. LOL Thanks for the congrats bro and for your new arrival due in June. So awesome!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  17. Yeah! Congratulations, Brad. Awesomeness in its best form. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  18. Chuck says:

Congrats to you and your growing family. Another saver on the family tree ! Again, congrats.
