Earlier this week I signed my son up for High School Spring baseball. First, it made me pause for a minute and think about how fast he’s growing up . I started to think about the shenanigans I was involved in when I was 15……then I wanted to stop thinking about that, and quickly. Second, it made me think about how when I signed up for sports in high school the process involved showing up at a meeting and getting the practice schedule. Signing him up for baseball required a payment of $160. Yikes. I hope he makes the team, because I don’t see anything saying we get that money back if he’s told after 3 days of tryouts that he didn’t make it.
Time to get those fists moving…..

Have a great weekend, and see you back here on Monday!
Thanks for mentioning the post I did over at Grayson’s, Travis!! Wow – it’s amazing that you have to pay that kind of cash in fees and yet there’s no refund if he doesn’t make the team. I’m sure he’ll do just fine, though. Happy weekend to you!
Well, to be honest I don’t know for sure that it’s non-refundable…it’s certainly something I would explore if he doesn’t make the team. The good news is, there’s about 20 freshman appear to have gone out for baseball, and the coach said that a VERY select few will get on the varsity team, a few will play JV, and 12-16 will be in the “C” team (pure 9th grade team). So, the net is, I think he’ll be playing on one of those three teams. I had a great weekend, hope you did too!
Whatever you do, don’t think about the things you were doing when you were 15 😉
OMG, I know….I had put it out of my mind until you brought it up again, Stefanie…THANKS A LOT! lol
I’ll have 2 -15 years olds in 2 weeks. Help me! Cost for HS sports? Our school district all cost are covered for sports. Well I guess maybe that’s why my property tax bill is some high.
YIKES! Are they twins, Brian or just very close together in age? Yeah, having the school just provide the cost of sports is what I remember….but then again it has to be paid for somehow – so it’s either more taxes, or pay as you play. Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for mentioning Laurie’s post. it was a good one! I hope your son makes the team and they should give you the money back, but probably won’t!
Tryouts start a week from today, Grayson! We had to buy him a new glove (as his old one ripped last year) – we bought him a pretty nice one for about $80 – I had no idea they could cost that much!
Thanks for the shout-out, Travis! I appreciate it! It does seem like every activity comes with some sort of fee these days. I do remember when school sports were free. I guess that makes me old, LOL! I’m sure your son will do fine! Have a great weekend.
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised…we’ve had to pay over $100 each year for him to play summer baseball. I’m hoping he makes one of the teams as I really enjoy watching him play. Thanks for stopping by!
Sports and dance class are two expenses we think are worth it, but it doesn’t come cheap. I wonder how many kids get priced out of activities…….. I hope your son makes the team and that you remember that you turned out OK, regardless of what you were doing at 15!
Thanks for the mention.
The good news is that there are “scholarships” available for people that need financial assistance – so hopefully nobody is priced out of the event. Glad to know you think I turned out OK. 😉
Ha. I love the thought process of the baseball signup. Hope he does well 🙂
Baseball means spring is here, right Mario??? Oh boy, there’s still 20 inches of snow on the ground. 🙂
Youth sports cost so much money – best of luck to your son in try-outs!
Looking forward to seeing how he does….I wish I had the talent he has at the sport – I love watching him play! thanks for dropping in, DC!
