A few weeks ago, my son had his senior pictures taken. We just got word from the photographer that the images are ready for us to look at. From there we will be deciding what we want to buy. She has a whole list of products and options and I’m a little scared to start adding things up. I expect to spend some cash on these lifetime mementos, but I don’t have a feel for how much people “usually” spend on something like this? Anyone out there in the EOD nation that can give some thoughts?
In the meantime, get those fists up for my favorite posts of the week!

Thanks for the mention, Travis! I’ve heard people can spend upwards of a grand on senior photos. Hope you don’t have to spend quite that much. 🙂
YIKES. Nope, not even close. 🙂
In regard to Senior photos, it may be easiest to decide beforehand what you need and then set a budget. For example, we need X wallet photos to put in his graduation invites, a 5×7 for each Grandparent, and an 8×10 for us. Our budget is $X. If the photos you need are less than $X, you could opt to get a few additional prints, up to your budget amount. As far as a specific amount, you have to choose what feels right to you. Good luck!
The tricky thing would be if the photos you need don’t fit within your budget…..fortunately for us we figured out a way to get what we want….well, if nothing else spread the cost over a period of time. We bought the digital proofs, and then we’ll just pay to print of the pictures as we need them. No “minimum” amount of pictures, we’re not constricted to certain packages. We can print exactly what we need, when we need them.
I graduated high school over ten years ago so that was the last time I dealt with senior pics. Not sure how much we spent – parents covered it!
I’m not sure how it is where you live but in Minneapolis-St. Paul there are literally thousands of photographers so I would err on the side of finding someone cheaper and newer to photography who is motivated to do a good job, and then just get digital copies. Then go and print whatever you want! I’d try to avoid paying extra from the photographer and having them print it…but again you are super savvy with money so I’m sure you will do what’s best.
And thanks for sharing my post!
We had a bit of a problem with photographers, unfortunately. We reached out to half a dozen, and only ONE returned our call. ONE. While we didn’t do a lot of price comparison (we did find some info on web sites), we felt really comfortable with the one we went with, and liked the work she had displayed on her site.
Can you buy a digital copyright license? then you could spend whatever you wanted on prints.
That’s actually what we did. 🙂
