We’ve had some house guests this week, my parents on Tuesday night, and some friends of ours from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area Wednesday and Thursday night. Since my city, Rochester, MN, is the home of the Mayo Clinic we offer up our home as a place to stay when friends and family are referred there for tests. While the circumstances for seeing people isn’t always the best, we’re always happy to spend time with loved ones, and take a bit of stress off of their need to come to town.
I’ve been enjoying the heck out of the cooler temps this week, great running weather. My weekend long runs are becoming a bit intimidating…..tomorrow I’ll be heading out on a 19 mile run which will take me right around 3 hours. Only three weeks until Marathon Day!!!
Speaking of marathon day, my runner’s guide came in the mail this week, which had me fist pumping hard! What’s got your fist in the air this week??

19 miles whew!!! Good luck with your run, and I think its awesome you let people stay with you when they go to the clinic. I’m sure whatever reason they are there is already stressful.
What Tonya said! Holy jeeeeez, I can’t even imagine that, haha. So excited for your marathon! Will we be able to follow along online, with this one?
I’m excited too, Cait…..honestly I think my training time around is the best it’s ever gone. You will be able to follow along online again – I’ll be posting a link as we get closer to 10/5. thanks for your support!!
The run was fantastic, Tonya….my training is going very well. Hoping it translates to a new personal best in a couple of weeks. Yeah, being referred to the Mayo is generally not a happy thing……sometimes its’ just a certain kind of specialist though.
Weather this time of the year is the best! Good luck on the run. How are you feeling after a run like this? Enjoy the weekend!
Up until a few weeks ago, my legs would be sore on the day of the run, but basically back to normal the next day. As I climb closer to the peak 20 mile run it’s taking a few days before the kinks get worked out of my quads. Not too bad though!
Happy long run! I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since my marathon. I did an 8 miler two weeks ago, can’t imagine tripling that and then some.
I had a similar thought when my long run was 13 miles…..and I thought about doubling it. But you just keep increasing that long run little by little, and suddenly 26.2 seems very doable. But you know that, you’ve been through this before…. 🙂 Ever think about doing it again?
That is so nice of you to offer your home as a place to stay. Finding a place to stay can be so stressful on top of everything else.
True story, Brandy – Rochester isn’t THAT big, but finding your way around somewhere new is a stress that just isn’t needed. We open our home, I fire up the kitchen, and even offer to make sure they get where they’re going. Sometimes they take me up on my offer, sometimes not. Thanks for reading, Brandy!
Can’t wait to read your post after you run your marathon. Keep us posted 🙂
Looking forward to writing about it, Michelle…..SO EXCITED to run it!!!! Thanks for your support!
