Save Money With The PetSmart PetPerks Program

This post is for every pet owner that has ever calculated how much they spend caring for their furry family member, and shook their head in disbelief. We love our pets, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t look for ways to bring down the cost of what we need to keep them in tip top shape. PetPerks, a rewards type membership by PetSmart might be able to help you do just that.

I normally buy my cat food at Walmart since 95% of the items on my grocery and household goods grocery list are cheaper there. But on this particular day I needed cat food and found myself in the parking lot of a PetSmart.  I placed the packages on the checkout belt and waited for my total.

“Are you a PetPerks member?” the cashier inquired.

“I dunno. Can you look up my phone number?” I asked?

The cashier found me in the system, pressed a button, and a discount was instantly applied. A discount to the tune of about 25%. Walking out the door, I told myself I would be coming there to buy cat food from that point on. The next time I was in the store, I did a little investigation about the PetPerks program:

  • It’s Free : There’s no fee to signup for the program, all you have to do is give them some basic information that takes literally seconds at the register.
  • Discounts : As you go through a PetSmart, you’ll note that almost every item has two prices. One is the regular price, and one is the price for PetPerks members.
  • No Mailings? : Given how the program works, I would expect they would at least flood my mailbox with fliers if they were going to give me a discount on most of their products. I don’t remember ever getting anything from them In the mail.

I’m not seeing a downside to the PetSmart PetPerks program at all. I’m getting no junk mail (physical or electronic) and I’m saving 25% on cat food. This saves me a tidy sum each month, but I’d bet it’s a real windfall for people with multiple pets, big dogs, or both.

Very rarely does something come along that saves you a significant chunk of money that seems to have no strings attached. The PetSmark PetPerks program seems to be a great thing for pet owners wanting to provide the best care for their pets while staying budget conscious.

How about you, EOD Nation, have you heard of PetSmart’s PetPerks program?
