Frugality Tips – Practice Makes Perfect

This is a guest post written by Ross of GoBeRich.com. Photo credit: Cliff1066 So I took a little trip to the mall the other day with my girlfriend and one of her friends. This was my first mistake. My second mistake was thinking I would tag along with them while they shopped for clothes and shoes and that it wouldn’t drive me insane. Needless to say, it did drive me insane, so eventually I set off on my own in search of something to occupy myself with. I first headed to Game Stop, as I have to admit, I’m a […] Read more »

Race to Freedom Challenge #3 – Maximize Savings

Photo Credit: totalAldo Last month you were challenged to stop eating out for the entire month, OR severely cut back to a reasonable level. To recap, my family tried to cut our eating out visits to 4 times with a cap of $120 being the most we could spend for the month. As I reported in the update post a few weeks ago, we went out to eat six times, but since then did add one more time to that for a grand total of $200. To be honest IU’m not regretting that one either because it was right before […] Read more »

Debt Free for Life Book Review and Giveaway

If I could give a Nobel Peace Prize to anyone — one of my possible choices would be to give it to someone who wrote a book with the title “DEBT FREE FOR LIFE“! (Biased, I know) Unfortunately, the Nobel Peace Prize has been tainted many times by being given to anyone that has a pulse, instead of to those who actually achieve greatness. In my opinion, the author of Debt Free for Life, David Bach, has achieved excellence and deserves such an award for his latest book. 🙂 Of course, for me, those that teach about debt and the […] Read more »

P90X is Doing for my Body, What the Total Money Makeover Did for my Finances

Photo Credit: West Point I wanted to get out of debt so I BROUGHT IT!! Now I want to lose weight so I’M BRINGING IT!! What do they have in common? Intensity! It’s about intensity and doing things you wouldn’t “normally do”. It’s not about kind of sort of wanting to lose weight or dump your debt. It’s about sacrifice! It’s about intensity! If you’re not willing to do either your debt free journey will seem like a trip to the moon, and likewise, if you’re trying to lose weight! Its about dedicated and deliberate action! When your security and […] Read more »

Race to Freedom Challenge #2 – No Eating Out

Hello everyone. There will be two parts to this article. First, anyone who participated, “officially” or not, in March’s Yard Sale Challenge, will need to email me some information regarding that challenge. And secondly, I’ll introduce you to April’s No Eating Out Challenge. Are ya ready? We only had 4 ladies, officially known as the Fab Four, who participated in last month’s challenge. I would love to have more people become involved as we progress through the year. My Race to Freedom reality series as it was originally envisioned has been scaled down to a much less formal competition. Honestly, […] Read more »

I Have No Budget, am Buried in Debt, but I’m Going on Vacation

Photo Credit: Elsie Esq. Who Are You Following Over the Cliff? If there was only one example NOT TO FOLLOW when it came to finance, it would definitely be that of the United States Government. It seems as though it’s getting easier and easier to use our government as the prime example of what not to do. Here we are without a budget, with no savings, in debt like never before AND they just found a 2.3 trillion dollar mistake in the budget projections for, I think, the next 10 years. (2.3 TRILLION?…WOW!) Employment SUCKS, and people are losing their […] Read more »

Creative Ways to Pay Down Your Debt

Living under the constant shadow of debt isn’t fun for anybody. If you feel like you’re drowning under a sea of debt, you may think you have no other option other than filing for bankruptcy. This should be avoided at all costs, since it will be a mark on your financial history for many years. It’s important to understand that it doesn’t give you clean slate, but allows people to rebuild their credit, slowly, without the adversity debt. If you do decide to file, you’ll find it's nearly impossible to get good rates on various loans, if at all, or good rates for credit and a variety of other things. Before making this decision, consider a few creative ways others have used to pay off their debt, without having to file for bankruptcy. Read more »

The Race to Freedom has officially started, but only 8 people signed up for the challenge. 31 of you are missing in action. Race to Freedom Challenge #1 – Sell Your Stuff

Do you want to know what motivated us the most when we decided to become debt free? Forget about the BIGGEST motivation, which was the freedom part of becoming debt free. That alone will not get you out of debt. If it did, way more people would be living the debt free life. It's because the goal is too long term for most people, and we are not motivated by what one, two, or even 10 years might be like. We need to see results and fast! Read more »

Enemy of Debt’s 2011 Race to Freedom

Happy Monday everyone!! I apologize for taking so long to update you on the "Reality Series"! I was hoping to do so on Friday of last week but ended up battling a power outage due to high winds. The main delay, however, was in trying to work out possible sponsorship. I didn't want to move forward until I found out where I was and now I know. Unfortunately, I was only able to get one company excited about the prospects of my reality series idea. I would like to thank Perkstreet Financial for believing in my very spontaneous and highly ambitious project. (YOU GUYS ROCK!) Unfortunately, in order for it to work in the long term, I needed to have more sponsors on board. Needless to say, sponsorship was a bust this time around. Read more »

What P90X Can Teach You About Paying Off Debt

Hello everyone and welcome to Enemy of Debt! As most of you know, I recently realized that my actions were not aligned with my goals. This prompted me to fire up the engine room over at Enemy of Fat, but also, to start P90X right now, as opposed to later. My initial goal was to wait until I had lost a few pounds first, then start P90X. It occurred to me that I may have created the prolonged start for P90X because I was scared, AND knew P90X was going to be tough. Although some of my initial decision was […] Read more »
