Enjoy What’s Truly Important This Holiday Season

It’s Christmas Eve, all the presents are purchased and wrapped under the tree. It’s been whirlwind month of determining our gift list, watching our budget, looking for the best deals. What’s left is spending time with family, enjoying the company, and making memories. What’s left is the most important part. As a child, I was obsessed with the gifts under the tree. I would constantly go over my list, dreaming about what I would be opening Christmas morning. When I went back to school, I would compare with classmates what presents we received that year and made plans to get […] Read more »

Fist Pump Friday: I Love You Like A Blogger Roundup – 12/21

My 16 year old daughter will be shelling out some serious cash today. It’s not anything fun, it’s the deductible to fix the damages to her car from the fender bender she was involved in after school a few months ago.  She was pulling into a parking space and misjudged he car’s turning radius and dented the doors of another vehicle as well as damaging her bumper. It’s important she realize that while these mistakes are not the end of the world, they do come with consequences. Fist pump for teenagers learning financial lessons, and my favorite posts of the […] Read more »

What’s Your Shopping Style?

Many different styles of shopping exist. Of course I knew this, but it slapped me across the face over the weekend when my wife and I went Christmas shopping together. Our shopping styles sit on the opposite ends of the spectrum, and it takes a big helping of patience for us to not get annoyed with each other. I thought we’d have a little fun today and compare the shopping styles of my wife and I. Shop Like It’s A Military Mission I do the vast majority of my shopping online, but for the few things that force me to […] Read more »

Have you reached your deductible for your medical insurance coverage this year?  For the first time ever, my family has. We’re scrambling to figure out if there’s anything medical related we want to take care of in the last few weeks of 2018 to take advantage of the higher coverage amounts we have since meeting our deductible.  If you’re in the same boat, you might want to give it some thought as well. Now, get your fists up for my favorite posts of the week! Posts That Make Me Fist Pump 4 Ways to Teach Your Children the Value of […] Read more »

5 Steps To Avoid Overpaying For Your New Appliance

The microwave made a horrible loud buzzing noise, and when the time reached zero the food inside was still cold. My over the range microwave was broken, and not worth fixing. It was time to get a new one. Before going shopping, I needed to research microwaves and know exactly what I wanted. Because if I didn’t know what I wanted, a salesperson would likely talk me into buying a model with more features than I’d use, costing more than I wanted to spend. New microwaves have more bells and whistles than I expected. I knew there were different sizes […] Read more »

Fist Pump Friday: I Love You Like A Blogger Roundup – 12/7

I’m extra excited about this week’s posts. Included in the list is a festive and seasonal post from Money Beagle about the movie National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. In the post are opinions I’ve shared for years, but never ran the numbers about just how much damage Clark would have to pay for out of pocket. If the events of the movie really happened, would Clark and family really get a swimming pool?  Check out the post and decide for yourself – it’s super fun. While you’re at it, check the other posts of the week which are equally as awesome, […] Read more »

How A MicroSD Card Could Save You $100 On Your Next Phone

With my current cell phone refusing to charge, I was shopping for a new one. I wanted a Samsung Galaxy S8+ (I could save money by buying the previous generation of phone), color didn’t matter. A little more thought was required when the sales representative asked me how much internal storage I wanted. Several choices were available, the price increasing with the memory size. I knew memory could be added to the current Galaxy phones by inserting a microSD card, so I contemplated if I should buy a phone with less memory and add a microSD card, or just buy […] Read more »

Fist Pump Friday: I Love You Like A Blogger Roundup – 11/30

I’m watching it snow out my window as the first winter storm of the season is underway. Nothing too bad, 5-8 inches of heavy wet snow is predicted to have fallen by the time the system moves out tomorrow morning. I’ve cleared my driveway once, and had a good chuckle remembering a post I wrote a few years ago about how real men use a shovel (not a snow blower).  While stuck at home for most of the weekend, we’ve done some laundry and put up our Christmas tree. It’s starting to feel like the holiday season! Fist pump for […] Read more »

Black Friday Shopping Done Right

For years I’ve bragged about the good night’s sleep I have the morning after Thanksgiving, portraying an attitude of non-interest regarding Black Friday shopping.  But, it’s time to come clean. I am a willing participant in the Black Friday madness, including this year.  Well, sort of.  Let me explain. Two Black Friday “Secrets” To say I slept in on Black Friday was no lie. I woke up well past eight o’clock, a full 4 hours past my normal weekday waking time.  I fought no crowds, visiting exactly zero stores that day.   There are two very important things to remember when […] Read more »

Fist Pump Friday: I Love You Like A Blogger Roundup – 11/23

Today is Black Friday, and as has been tradition as long as I’ve been writing here at EOD, I will tell you what a great night’s sleep I had last night. I spent an enjoyable day yesterday with family, and went to bed after watching news stories of peopled lined up for doorbuster deals. This morning I watched the morning programs have segment after segment boasting the best deals to be had today.  I spent exactly zero dollars.  Zero. I refuse to let mediocre deals on sub par quality products coax me into staying up all night fighting crowds and […] Read more »

Don’t Ignore Budget Maintenance

When was the last time you paid attention to your budget? I don’t mean a glancing look, I mean sit down at the computer or kitchen table and really dug into it ensuring it accurately reflects your expenses and spending? If you don’t regularly evaluate your budget and our spending, your finances are not running as efficiently as they should. My wife and I spent the majority of our Sunday afternoon cleaning our home. As I worked through some of the tasks, I was surprised at how dirty some areas were (and at just how much cat hair had collected […] Read more »

Never Pay Full Price For SiriusXM Satellite Radio

We’ve had SiriusXM satellite radio in our van for years. We actually have the package that comes with online streaming, so we can use it with our phones paired to a bluetooth speaker when sitting outside or traveling. So when I noticed our subscription was about to expire, I knew exactly what I needed to do: I needed to call and cancel our subscription. It may sound strange that I would call and cancel a service I use daily. Our subscription was a promotional offer that was half the regular advertised price. Now that the promotional period was over, our […] Read more »

Fist Pump Friday: I Love You Like A Blogger Roundup – 11/10

Yesterday a few coworkers and I signed a patent application! My employer has an intellectual property program that encourages, and actually pays employees to patent ideas designed in the course of doing our work. They have a whole legal team devoted to the process. It protects their products and it puts some extra cha-ching into the inventor’s pockets.  The extra cash will show up in my paycheck just in time for Christmas shopping! Fist pump for a little extra cash, and my favorite posts of the week! Posts That Make Me Fist Pump A New Case for Unsubscribing from Nearly […] Read more »
